At 100 years old, Inez Jordan has lived a life full of hard work, family, and a deep commitment to helping others. Born in the small town of Rome, Alabama, Inez grew up on a farm, where she learned the value of perseverance and the rewards of honest labor. “We worked seven days a week on that farm,” Inez recalls. “But we also had our Sunday traditions, like going to church and visiting different families’ homes for dinner. That was always a special time for us.”
After moving to Mansfield, Ohio, at age 21, Inez pursued her passion for nursing, working for 20 years at Winchester Hospital. “I always wanted to be a nurse,” she says. “It was just something I felt called to do—to help people and make a difference in their lives.” Inez’s dedication to her patients was evident throughout her career, and she took great pride in the relationships she built.
Faith has been a cornerstone of Inez’s life. A devoted Jehovah’s Witness, she has remained steadfast in her beliefs and dedicated to her church throughout the years. Her faith, she says, has guided her through both good times and hard times, providing strength, purpose, and a sense of peace no matter what life brings.
Inez’s life has also been shaped by her family. She and her late husband raised five children in the Mansfield area, and she now has grandchildren and great-grandchildren who bring her immense joy. “My family has always been the most important thing to me,” Inez says. “I’m so proud of my children and how they’ve turned out. They’re good, hard-working people, and that’s all I could ever ask for.”
Now a resident of Brethren Care Village, Inez continues to find fulfillment in sharing her life experiences with others. “I love being here and getting to know the other residents,” she says. “We all have such interesting stories to tell, and I enjoy listening to them and passing down my own memories to the next generation.”
Despite the challenges she has faced, including a recent fall that has affected her memory, Inez remains resilient and optimistic. “Life has been really good to me,” she says. “I’ve had my ups and downs, but I’ve always tried to focus on the positive and be grateful for what I have. That’s the advice I’d give to anyone—stick with your job, cherish your family, and never stop learning and growing.”
Inez’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, compassion, and faith. Her journey from an Alabama farm to a fulfilling nursing career and a vibrant retirement community is a true inspiration, and her willingness to share her experiences with others is a gift to all who have the privilege of knowing her.
